Physical Exams and Vaccinations

At Cooley Animal Clinic the annual physical exam is considered the cornerstone of good pet health maintenance.  This exam, performed by one of our two staff doctors, often will include needed vaccines and certain tests.  At this time you will have the opportunity to discuss any health concerns which may have arisen during the previous year.

We require that our canine patients receive an annual heartworm test, fecal test, Rabies vaccine, and Distemper/Parvo combination vaccine.  Leptospirosis vaccines are highly recommended for most dogs.  Bordetella (kennel cough) and Lyme vaccines are also available.  Facilities that board or groom dogs require the Bordetella vaccine and dogs at risk of tick exposure should receive the Lyme vaccine.   We also recommend that your dog remain on heartworm preventative year round.  Most of our clients also prefer to prevent flea problems with their choice of products rather than battle a potential infestation later.

We require that our feline patients be Feline Leukemia/FIV tested at the first visit unless a record of a negative tests can be provided.  Cats will receive an annual Feline Leukemia vaccine, Distemper combination vaccine, Rabies vaccine and fecal test.  F.I.P. vaccines, heartworm preventative, and flea preventative are also available for cats.

Puppies and kittens require a series of vaccines and dewormings that can vary depending on your pet's breed, age, and history.  At the first visit we will check a stool sample and the doctor will do a thorough exam.  We will take a picture of your new addition to hang on our bulletin board and put on our New Pets page on the website.  We will also be sure to address all of your questions and concerns!
